![]() System has Asus Motherboard, i7 (2nd gen, I think), 16 GB RAM. Host is LTS-version, Kubuntu 20.04.2 with latest updates. I haven't seen any instability in this system. Handbrake tries to take 100 % from both processors when it runs. Then I have ran Handbrake video conversion with 2 "processors" allocated to the VM for a few hours. I hope that VMware doesn't throw personal virtualization to have now installed Kubuntu 21.10 Beta (from Daily delivery source today), Updated it with the latest updates and installed Handbrake on it. perhaps PART of that was about Oracle-specific terminology and oracle-reverse-logic when moving computers from one place to another. It had problems and obscurities that VMware NEVER had. In professional use it was nothing but trouble in large workshops failing to operate properly. perhaps Win 10 20H1/2 version makes a difference? actually, not with Windows 10 either when fiddling with Upgrades to Win 11. I haven't encountered any problems so far. Windows 11 VM computers don't seem to have this problem. Luckily, I don't have much use for Windows 10 VM computers any more. This could STILL be about a Windows regression, but an end-user doesn't really care, especially if the discussion is just mute. There doesn't seem to be a way to get from these discussions to product level knowledge, to know about fixes made and even less for getting bugs or workarounds tested, analyzed, fixed and released. I have no idea how this problem would be verified in any other system and thus traced back to a host or a particular physical computer system - it just happens sometimes, in my experience not very Nevertheless I do hope VMware eventually finds a fix for this problem which seems to be affecting a not insignificant number of people." You always have to have two admin accounts for safety. This was just one example from many.Īs for your desktop problem in Windows VM - didn't a new profile/user solve it? You know, Windows profiles DO break from time to time. None of these were problems in Ubuntu during real-Unity times. Use of virtual desktops works like a charm in Kubuntu. My god, even Windows can do that and many distros, including Kubuntu can do much more with mouse right button (- using Save As adds many steps and of course, it has to work ins a rather strange/uncommon way, which adds even more steps). Sorry for an off-topic discussion - I was merely referring to usability and such - like this matter that you cannot create an empty text file with right mouse button - and they keep on arguing that this is the correct behavior in Ubuntu. or perhaps our companies still I didn't mean that Kubuntu would do you any good compared to Ubuntu in regard to this thread - at least, I have no indication that it would. Also, in reality, many problems are common with VMware Workstation Pro, even if we don't have those licenses. VMware Workstation Player is NOT freeware - I have bought many licenses for it. It is a pity that the problems here do not end up for VMware to analyze - seems that way anyhow. Kubuntu is a bit old-fashioned, but it just works nicely. I think it was the first TRULY different and innotative approach to desktop - very functional, fast and easy in comparison to anything, if you just understood it. there was SO much trash talk about it, when it came out. Unity-desktop was VERY good, but they haven't had the courage to keep it like it was (since 12.04, I think, talking about LTS-versions). There are far too many inconsistencies with Ubuntu nowadays. I guess "metacity" or something would give you access to modifications and try-outs, not sure though, please google.Īs for ditching - I have ditched Ubuntu and using Kubuntu. ![]() In Windows, the solution to problems like this, would be to create an other profile, that is another user. Probably it is easy to fix, if you can just find out how. I have had it on a physical computer as well, a couple of times, once didn't get a solution. As for Ubuntu desktop half-way disappearing, I don't think it is related to virtualization at all.
